Spelman Athletics

Shemika is a psychology major from Plainfield, NJ.  Shemika has been a member of the softball team for four years and served as team captain for the 2010 season.  As a junior, Shemika was presented with the Coach's Award.  She has also been recognized by the conference for her academic achievements by being named to the GSAC All-Academic Team in 2008, 2009, and 2010.  Shemika is a member of Psi Chi (psychology honor society), Phi Sigma Tau (philosophy honor society), National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program, where she serves as president of the Honors Program Student Association.  Shemika will attend the Boston University School of Medicine to pursue a master's degree in mental health counseling and behavioral medicine.

Lauren is an international studies major from Plainfield, NJ.  She has been a member of the golf team for two years.  Lauren is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Beta Delta, the Golden Key International Honour Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor  Society, and the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program.  She has received numerous awards/scholarships, some of which include: the UNCF Institute for International Public Policy Fellow, the Hodges International Affairs Trailblazer Award, and the Charles Merrill Study Abroad scholarship.

Lauren has received funding to attend Middlebury's intensive Chinese language program.  She has also been accepted in to the International Agricultural Internship Program at the Agricultural Trade Office in Shanghai.
