Coach Farley Youman and the tennis team are sitting at the top of the Great South Athletic Conference currently (5-0), after two conference wins this past weekend against Salem College and Wesleyan College. The Jaguars have been on a winning streak since dropping a non-conference match against the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University on Feb. 26.
During this streak, the Jaguars have managed to set some impressive records along the way. In the five conference wins, the Jaguars are 14-1 in doubles matches. Overall, the Jaguars have a 20-6 record for doubles matches, the best record thus far under Coach Youman. On March 20 against the Lady Scots of Maryville College, the Jaguars split the six singles matches (3-3), but swept all three doubles matches to pick up the 6-3 victory.
According to Coach Youman, "we have practiced a lot on doubles, and it has paid off." "Our doubles record is one of the main reasons we are 7-2. We also have two players who have dominated in singles (
Lauren Holloway (Cleveland, OH) and
Alana McKinney (Dallas, GA)). Lauren is undefeated in conference play (5-0) and Alana is also undefeated in the conference (4-0)." Holloway has a singles record of 7-2, McKinney is 5-1,
Sydney Davis (Chapel Hill, NC) and
Gabrielle Pingue (Cambridge, MA) are both 6-3.
Alana McKinney and doubles partner
Gabrielle Pingue are carrying an unblemished record of 8-0 in all their matches and 5-0 in conference matches. The doubles pair of Lauren Holloway and
Adamma Ebo (Atlanta, GA) have dropped just one match this season (7-1).
The Jaguars have two matches remaining on the regular season schedule. The matches are against the other undefeated teams in the conference, Huntingdon (5-0) and Agnes Scott (4-0).
