The Jaguar softball team (0-2) sits in 6th place in the Great South Athletic Conference with less than a month remaining in the regular season. Five of the seven remaining contests on the schedule are against conference opponents, which gives the Jaguars several opportunities to move up in the conference standings. The Jaguars host the Lady Lions of Piedmont College this Friday and the Lady Hawks of Huntingdon College on Saturday.
As a team, the Jaguars are batting .255, which is 5th in the conference. They have allowed 121 hits (2nd in GSAC), 132 runs (3rd in GSAC), and 40 walks (2nd in GSAC). Several individual players are amongst the conference best in both offensive and defensive categories. Sophomore
Christian Watkins (Atlanta, GA) is 5th in the conference with a .440 batting average.
Sephora Fortune (Decatur, GA) sits in 6th place with a .429 average and
Arianna Crosby (Golden Valley, MN) holds down the 7th spot with a .419 average.
Cynthia Iyekegbe (Peekskill, NY) is batting .360 currently and sits in 13th place in the conference. Senior
Shemika Brooks (Plainfield, NJ) is second amongst all pitchers with 48 strikeouts.
The GSAC softball tournament begins at the end of this month (Apr 30) and continues throughout the weekend.
