Junior midfielder Danielle Stallings has been named one of 10 female finalists for this year's Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award. This award is given through Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. Stallings and all the award recipients are featured in the Apr 29th issue of the publication. "Dani" is one of two scholar-athletes representing Division III institutions, both of which are women's colleges.
Stallings is a history and pre-law double major with a minor in Chinese. The Plano, TX native is being recognized by Diverse for the second straight year. She was named a 2009 Ashe Scholar for women's soccer (first team).
Danielle is very involved on campus and belongs to several clubs and honor societies, including: National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program (Spelman), and she has been named to the Dean's List since fall 2007. She has also been named to the President's All-Academic Team, which recognized scholar-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. Stallings has also received recognition from the Great South Athletic Conference during her three years as a Jaguar. She has been named to the All-Conference Team every year and the All-Academic Team for the past two years. At this year's Jaguar Athletics banquet, she received the soccer team's Coach's Award.
The Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award honors student-athletes of color who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better through the fall 2009 semester. The athletes must have also completed one full academic year at their institutions and demonstrate a record of service to their campuses and/or communities.
